Born in Ishikawa Prefecture in 1954, he began his career producing tea ceremony utensils using Yamanaka lacquerware (maki-e) techniques. In 1993, he started creating netsuke alongside his lacquer work. His early pieces often featured pictorial expressions celebrating the beauty of the four seasons through maki-e and mother-of-pearl inlay. Over time, he studied a wide range of techniques—including wood carving and Shibayama inlay—ultimately developing a distinctive style that fuses three-dimensional form with traditional lacquer artistry.
