Concentric Circles

Concentric Circles

心円

Kazuo Yoshizawa's works are unique creations that combine traditional Nihonga materials with a highly distinctive artistic process. Using precious natural mineral pigments together with genuine gold and silver leaf, he builds multiple layers of color before carving and cutting back the painted surface to reveal unexpected depth, texture, and luminosity. A defining characteristic of his art is its powerful tactile quality. Colors appear to glow from within layered surfaces, while incised lines and traces of removal create a rhythmic sense of movement and time. Rooted in the beauty of Japanese nature and the changing seasons, Yoshizawa's works are also inspired by cultures and experiences from around the world, resulting in a visual language that moves freely between representation and abstraction.
Concentric Circle is characterized by radiating circular forms extending across a richly textured surface. Layers of gold, silver, blue, turquoise, red, and orange pigments create a vibrant visual field where geometric structure and layered marks coexist. The repeated circular motif establishes a strong visual rhythm, while metallic elements and mineral pigments reveal changing details under different lighting conditions
